WHAT IS NEUROMOVEMENT®?

The Anat Baniel Method® (ABM) NeuroMovement® is a holistic approach to improving human functioning and action. It is based on the scientific principles of neuroplasticity - the ability of the brain to change itself.

The Nine Essentials form the core of the Method, having been developed by Anat Baniel over decades of work with children and adults, yielding transformational results. Read more about Anat and how the Method evolved here.

THE NINE ESSENTIALS

1. MOVEMENT WITH ATTENTION

Pay attention to what you feel as you move

2. SLOW

Slowing down allows deeper attention and refinement

3. VARIATION

Introduce variation to create new possibilities

4. SUBTLETY

Reduce the force to more easily perceive differences

5. ENTHUSIASM

Amplify and energise what is important to you

6. FLEXIBLE GOALS

With your goals in mind, embrace all the trips, falls and scenic routes along the way

7. THE LEARNING SWITCH

Be curious and always look for the learning

8. IMAGINATION & DREAMS

Imagine what you want to do and dream of the many ways you could achieve it

9. AWARENESS

At any moment in time, be aware of you are thinking, feeling, and experiencing

THE PLASTIC BRAIN

Decades of research done by thousands of neuroscientists has shown that the brain can change itself.

Brain plasticity describes this ability of the brain and nervous system to change structurally and functionally in response to experience. Plasticity occurs on the level of cellular changes and changes involved in cortical remapping. The most widely recognised forms of plasticity are learning, memory, and recovery from brain damage.

The brains of infants and children are extremely changeable, constantly expanding and mapping new territory. The initial involuntary movements of babies provide the information their brains need to form the recognisable patterns required to eventually organise and control their actions.

The science of brain plasticity shows how, under the right conditions, the adult brain can also restructure itself in remarkable ways. The birth of new brain cells can occur in adults, as well as children, something believed impossible not too long ago.
